The EngExec is an invitation-only credential offered by EA, the peak body of engineering, which recognises outstanding members and determined by four units of competency: leadership, strategic direction and entrepreneurs, planning, change and improvement.
In a recent article, Dr Bronwyn Evans, CEO for EA, said, “EngExec recognises engineers working at the highest level of industry, defence, academia and government – people whose decisions affect engineers, the engineering industry and the Australian community more broadly.”
Rob says, “As a member of EA for the past 28 years, it’s an honour to be recognised as an EngExec and I hope to leverage this credential to inspire the engineering leaders of tomorrow.
Throughout his career, Rob has demonstrated outstanding leadership, having directed multi-disciplinary engineering teams in the delivery of city-shaping projects, such as the $3.6B Queen’s Wharf in Brisbane’s CBD, and now as the leader of WSP’s Property and Buildings team, with almost 900 staff nationally. While most of his days are now spent managing people and building relationships with clients, he still considers himself a passionate electrical engineer.
Rob says, “My early heroes were the pioneers of electrical engineering, Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. However, I continue to be inspired by the rewarding opportunities offered by our profession.”
With the current challenges facing our society including the impacts of COVID-19, urban densification and climate change, the role of the engineering profession is more crucial now than it ever was.
Rob adds, “I am delighted that in my role as a leader, I am surrounded by amazing engineers who share my passion and are innovating and adapting to the changing world around us, so that together we can address these challenges.
“Helping to shape the cities of the future has given me purpose throughout my career journey, and I relish the ability to support graduates and young professionals in reaching their peak and delivering outcomes that will enable our communities to thrive.”
