Presented by the Western Australian Chapter, the annual event gives a platform for geo-professionals under 35 to present their work, gain feedback from experienced colleagues and become involved in AGS activities. There were three presentations on a wide range of topics, delivered to AGS members and guests.
Rachel says, “I am very lucky to have received the 20th Dr Baden Clegg Young Geotechnical Engineer Award. It's all thanks to being part of a team and company that supports and motivates my professional development, regardless of my ethnic group or gender.”
Rachel submitted her abstract in June and was selected as one of three rock stars to present to the membership at the University of Western Australia.
Titled; Lessons Learned from Drilling in The Thick Gravels in The Fortescue Basin, Rachel’s presentation was based on her site work from Koodaideri Bridge and Yandi Bridge, both ETS projects.
“I hope through this award I can express that geotechnical engineering is just as enjoyable and rewarding as other civil disciplines and females can excel in it too. And to clarify, we don't lick rocks and sieve sand through our teeth anymore...” she says.
