Due for completion in late 2023, the initial Stage 1a of this future ready project includes development of a Founder Stock Centre at Exmouth, as well as a Grow Out Facility at Legune Station NT. A production process plant will also be constructed near Kununurra WA as well as a further Breeding Facility near Bynoe, south of Darwin.
The initial role will see WSP provide project management and services expertise, as well as site personnel to support the development of Stage 1a of Seafarms Corporation’s PSD program which will initially produce 6,000 tonnes per annum of Tiger Prawns for domestic and international export.
Key features of the Stage 1a project include the creation of a significant seawater inlet channel at Legune Station where construction of 400 hectares of inland grow-out ponds will occur, supported by a power plant, processing facilities, associated civil and road infrastructure, buildings, storage tanks and testing laboratories.
PSD also has ongoing plans for further stages which could see Legune Station transformed into one of the largest inland aquaculture developments of its kind anywhere in the world.
WSP has a proven track record in working closely with our clients to successfully deliver many integrated teaming projects in Australia. This is primarily built on trust, the selection of talented people, as well as the selection of flexible project controls and reporting tools aligned to the client’s requirements.
Upon award, Nick Flanagan, WSP General Manager, Mining and Energy said, “This is a significant project for our client, Project Sea Dragon, in this region, and a fantastic endorsement of their confidence in WSP to assist in the successful delivery of Stage 1a of this world class initiative.
“We look forward to building on the early planning work already completed by the project team in Darwin and moving full steam ahead with the mobilisation of additional key personnel onto site over the next few months.”
