Every year the GBCA recognises professionals for their time and dedication in driving the sustainability agenda and inspiring change across the property industry, through the use and advocacy of its Green Star rating tools in Australia.
With a passion and commitment to facilitating a carbon positive future with healthy and resilient places, Ben and Sean have been supporting their clients with future ready solutions that deliver sustainability excellence on signature projects such as Sydney Modern – the first art gallery in Australia to achieve a 6-Star Green Star Design rating, and Queen’s Wharf – the first project in Brisbane to achieve a 6-Star Green Star Communities rating.
Ben and Sean have also played integral roles with the governance and continuous improvement of the Green Star rating system; both representing WSP in our Future Focus Technical Partnership with the GBCA. In addition, Sean has been a member of the GBCA’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Nature expert reference panel and Ben has been a member of the GBCA’s Health and Wellbeing expert reference panel.
Sean says, “It’s been a privilege to work closely with the GBCA over the past two years in a technical partnership and support the development of the next generation of the Green Star rating tools, which will enable the GBCA to raise the bar on leadership and support the best sustainability outcomes for the property industry.”
“We’ve ensured that the revised tools are future ready and focus on facilitating net positive outcomes for the property industry, which can deliver across the triple bottom line – the social, environmental and economic aspects.”
Ben says, “We’re already utilising the new generation of Green Star rating tools and helping our clients to demonstrate leadership on their current projects, by reducing carbon emissions and delivering whole-of-life sustainability outcomes.
Ben recently presented a case study on one of these projects, 210 Brunswick Street at the GBCA’s Green Building Day event held in Brisbane recently. The build-to-rent development is being delivered by Frasers Property Australia, and will incorporate a range of sustainability initiatives including an all-electric design powered from carbon neutral sources, and increased resiliency through the inclusion of climate change, heat and community resilient design initiatives.
