In 2018, WSP was engaged to undertake the concept development and signalling detailed design for Transport for NSW’s, ‘More Trains, More Service Stage 2 program’ (the program) over five keys areas across the South Coast of NSW.
At the end of June 2021, the project hit a significant milestone with WSP supporting the successful delivery of a key enabling stage at Wollongong, Kiama and Thirroul.
The stage delivered the final works to prepare the Sydney rail network for rollout of the Mariyung (new intercity) fleet with each of the five South Coast areas identified as essential platform stopping or train stabling areas.
The works along the South Coast Line mean a service will be available every 15 minutes in the peak and every 30 minutes in the off peak between Wollongong and the Sydney CBD.
Despite facing late impact from the recent COVID restrictions, the signal design team supported the commissioning on site with design cover and assisted in the final integrity testing works before successful handback, ensuring changes were made to the scope to protect the health and safety of the works and site personnel.
Since being engaged by Transport for NSW, WSP has produced over 1,000 pages of detailed design across a number of enabling stage works and final designs. The team continues to provide ongoing construction and commissioning support across all program works.
Broadening our footprint
As the WSP signalling team continues work across our many projects we’re also pleased to welcome Gerald Chin – Principal Designer and Priya Bairagi – Senior Designer to the group to bolster our expertise and delivery.
