The new hospital building at Hornsby had to replace an ageing building and infrastructure. Our client sought to create purpose-built healthcare facilities that achieved environmentally sustainable outcomes and improved the hospital experience for all.
Leveraging Technology for Success
As the services design leader, we met the tight construction program with Building Information Modelling (BIM). We used BIM throughout the design process to validate challenging areas and to exchange data with the team, which improved overall productivity. We developed the building energy performance and fire engineering models using BIM, which also saved a significant amount of time and effort.

Benefiting the Community
We tested the building design against Australian energy efficiency legislation and achieved a nine per cent reduction, which is being monitored during our ongoing involvement in the operation of the building. The aim is to continue this evaluation to improve future healthcare building design.
All new seven operating theatres now contain fully-integrated equipment that allows communication with global experts during procedures. An interventional theatre allows surgical and minimally-invasive procedures to be performed in conjunction with radiology services.
