WSP in Canada is proud to announce that the company has received three Awards of Excellence at the 2021 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards. The awards are presented by the Association of Consulting Engineers | Canada and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine.
The three projects that received Award of Excellence were the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont – Modular Complex, West Niagara Secondary School Remediation Project, and Lowering the regional groundwater table in Nutashkuan. Each project was submitted by the company, and then judged by an independent panel of industry judges.
Lowering the Regional Groundwater Table in Nutashkuan
The Nutashkuan project involved creating a solution for reducing the risk of flood waters from the spring thaw that were continuously damaging homes in the Innu First Nation community in northern Quebec. By finding a way to control the rise of groundwater through an analysis of the impacted area’s hydrogeology and the installation of underground infiltration chambers, our team provided a solution that will significantly reduce the impact of seasonal flooding.
West Niagara Secondary School Remediation Project
When the District of Niagara School Board (DNSB) in southern Ontario purchased a former garden centre site for the construction of a new high school, excavation revealed the illegal dumping of 140,000 m3 of construction and demolition waste. Following a thorough assessment of the site, our team was able to provide a number of solutions for dealing with the waste, and allowing the DNSB to eventually proceed with school construction.
Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont – Modular Complex
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Montreal’s Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont requested the construction of a modular complex that could support growing patient volumes, and serve as additional space for post-pandemic medical services. With support from Architecture49, WSP was able to design a 3,200m2 facility that, through rapid design and construction, was operational within eight months.
In addition to these awards, we want to recognize our Golder colleagues for their involvement in an additional project that received an Award of Excellence: Mill Creek Ravine Pedestrian Bridges Rehabilitation in Edmonton, Alberta.
Articles on all of the award winners are featured in the October 2021 edition of Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine.
