Hysan Place, a 38-story office and retail tower, is the first property in Hong Kong to achieve Certification to Platinum under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program of the U.S. Green Building Council. Hysan Place also achieved a certificate at the highest level of Hong Kong’s Building Environmental Assessment Method.

Hysan Place includes a green roof and several sky gardens to reduce the building’s contribution to the city’s temperature. WSP provided plumbing and drainage design for the green roof and sky gardens, and also consulted on the building’s rainwater recycling system, including an artificial wetland on the podium roof.

Early in the development process, WSP worked to orient the building for maximum reduction of heat gain and glare. The firm also incorporated design of various computerized energy-management systems to monitor and adjust the building’s energy use on a real-time basis in order to boost occupant comfort, provide energy savings, and reduce emissions.

Escalators in the building are equipped with standby mode features, which save energy during periods of low usage. Elevators incorporate regenerative drive, which recycles energy used during braking back into the building’s power grid. High-efficiency lighting technologies were adopted to achieve a 30 to 40 percent savings of the LEED baseline. Daylight sensors are provided to dim the high-efficiency lighting output level when daylight is sufficient. 

Other challenges that we have overcome
