Teesside was a powerhouse for iron, steel, shipbuilding and chemicals and home to the world’s first public railway between Stockton and Darlington. A proud success story of the industrial revolution. Deindustrialisation in the 1980s created a challenging legacy, epitomised by Margaret Thatcher’s “walk in the wilderness”, that has persisted to this day. 

Yet…a new economic vision for 700,000 Teessiders is emerging. The region stands ready to be at the frontier of a new - now green - industrial revolution. An outward-looking, infant Hercules built on existing industrial foundations, and ready to underpin the UK’s growth in hydrogen, renewables, carbon capture as well as bioscience and advanced manufacturing. 

By 2025 Teesside could be home to the world’s first decarbonised industrial cluster, the first outpost of HM Treasury outside of London and the UK’s largest freeport. Will these deliver upon the aspirations of residents from Redcar to Hartlepool? We want to help deliver that clean prosperous vision of a Future Ready Teesside, one that is ready for tomorrow as well as today.
