We work on an array of projects from high profile schemes to smaller local studies across our energy, highways, rail, marine, property and local government sectors. We work on projects throughout the full project lifecycle from feasibility to construction. 

Our Graduates get involved in early feasibility studies, the delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), report writing and client meetings. Days could also involve visiting site and liaising with contractors, discussing environmental solutions with colleagues, responding to client requests for information, meetings with the team about the scope and progress of projects or supporting with the preparation of proposals for new projects.

Environmental Services covers a wide range of technical areas, including acoustics, cultural heritage and archaeology, landscape and urban design and ecology, biodiversity, natural capital, ecosystem services and arboriculture. Across our portfolio, our work often includes significant field work elements, together with desk-based design and assessment. The blend of field versus office work depends on the technical specialism. We bring our skills and experience to a very wide range of clients and projects, from residential and commercial property to energy and transport infrastructure to strategic advice.

The Ground & Water team provide a full suite of specialist Geo-environmental services throughout the full project lifecycle from desk studies, site investigations and risk assessments, through planning, to remediation design and supervision and asset maintenance. Our Graduates quickly become actively involved in report writing, designing, and undertaking fieldwork and attending client meetings. Site work initially forms a central part of their roles and they are mentored and supported by their team as well as being provided with health and safety training. Graduates are encouraged and supported on their career journey towards gaining a recognised professional qualification. 

Day to day activities also involve liaising with contractors, discussing environmental solutions with colleagues, responding to client requests for information, meetings with the team about the scope and progress of projects or supporting with the preparation of proposals for new projects.

WSP Golder works on an array of projects in the mining industry covering all regions Globally. Work includes high level Due Diligence Reviews to detailed Feasibility Studies and detailed design of mines and mining infrastructure covering Geology & Resource Estimation, Mining, Geotechnical and Geo-mechanical Engineering. Hydrology and Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Tailings and Waste Management for mines. Heap Leach Design, Mine Closure Studies, Financial Assessments and Construction Supervision and QA/QC Services. 

Based in the UK and Ireland and as part of the WSP Golder Europe Mining team get involved involved in a variety of projects ranging from West Africa, Europe, Ireland, Asia (Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan) and the Middle East. WSP Golder operates a Global Mining Team encouraging and favouring collaboration to ensure our clients get the best results and at the same time ensuring our staff are presented with the opportunities to develop their career. Work can also include site visits sometimes to remote locations. 

A typical day could also involve liaising with other Disciplines, discussing multi-disciplinary design solutions with colleagues, responding to client requests for information, meetings with the team about the scope and progress of projects or supporting with the preparation of proposals for new projects. 

 Degree backgrounds considered:

  • BSc Geology with MSc in Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering
  • BSc or MSc Engineering Geology
  • BEng or MEng Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering

The Geotechnics and Tunnelling team are involved in investigating ground risk and designing sustainable infrastructure for buildings, highways, rail, water and energy projects. They work across the UK and internationally and employ Geologists, Engineering Geologists and Civil & Geotechnical Engineers to reflect the range of skills the projects require.

Degree backgrounds considered:

  • BSc or MSc in Civil Engineering
  • BSc or MSc in Urban Design
  • BSc or MSc in Transport Planning

The Planning and Built Environment team provide a full suite of specialist Town Planning and Built Environment services throughout the full project lifecycle from desk studies, site investigations and risk assessments, through planning, to remediation design and supervision and asset maintenance.
