“Collaboration, placemaking and connectivity have been at the heart of WSP’s involvement in the region, and we look forward to playing our part in making this blueprint for the region’s future prosperity a success. The region’s housing need is substantial and an outcome of its potential and attractiveness. Delivering a new city the size of Birmingham requires a different level of thinking. We have the opportunity to leverage new approaches to growth models, where collaboration will be critical with private sector involvement in shaping delivery.
“The NIC recommendation that new housing developments should not be to the detriment of existing communities, nor should it compromise the quality of the arc’s natural and built environment is one which we fully endorse.
“For this reason, we also fully support the recommendation that any deal with Government must give local areas the certainty, freedoms and resources they need to create well-designed, well-connected new communities. We hope next week’s Budget will give the financial impetus for the region’s future prosperity to be met, and we look forward to continue playing our part in it.”
