Kidbrooke Village is one of the capital’s most successful estate regeneration schemes, with a 20-year vision to create a thriving new community in place of the unpopular Ferrier Estate, in partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the Greater London Authority.

Our client Berkeley Homes has adopted a masterplan approach for the site, which will deliver over 1,500 affordable homes including 300 for the elderly. The masterplan will deliver a comprehensive mixed land-use site, which will incorporate over  170,000 sqft of commercial, retail and leisure space around the Village Centre containing a redesigned transport interchange, with a re-provided train Station and bus routes . Fifty five hectares of the masterplan will consist of parks and open spaces.

The development team has comprised a partnership between public and private sector organisations, with WSP providing transport masterplanning consultancy, including advice on street hierarchy design, pedestrian and cyclist connections, bus route design, and the urban design of the new commercial and public transport hub of the development. WSP also provided junction modelling and micro-simulation to assist with local highway improvement work.

Berkeley Homes retained WSP help to support a number of successful detailed applications for the individual phases that comprise the masterplan. In addition to transport planning advice, WSP also provided environmental consultancy for the development’s acoustics, air quality and microclimate to determine the impact of the proposed scheme on the local wind environment and on the levels of daylight and sunlight to neighbouring properties.
