This webinar will provide an overview of the application of a safe system approach in a highway environment. Examples will be presented to illustrate practical application of safe systems to enable network resilience and strive to achieve vision zero.
To achieve safety for all users in the highway environment, we need to recognise and understand the relationships and interfaces between:
Spaces, People and Vehicles - In the context of safe speeds, crash review and response and an appropriate assessment framework.
The safe system approach considers operation of the road network as a system that involves the infrastructure, the technology systems (ITS), the vehicles using the road network all users and operators. The webinar will encourage us to see that the safe system approach is a valuable tool (to structure thought processes, marshal evidence and innovative ideas) to achieve vision zero.
