Day 1: 17 June 2019
The Conference provides us with a great platform to promote our Global Healthcare Index, which we are developing in partnership with the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design of the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London. The Index will compare the preparedness of cities to meet the emerging healthcare needs of their populations. Gerard Briscoe and Gail Ramster, the lead research associates with the RCA, will deliver a presentation entitled “Designing a global index of future-readiness for healthcare challenges” as part of the session (Session 6) on The policy and practice of place-based health on the first morning of the conference.
Simon Kydd will then chair the next session (Session 7) on Designing for whole-health models, during which Suzanne MacCormick, WSP UK Associate Director – Healthcare Advisory, will present on “How to develop integrated care” alongside Cressida Toon of Sonnemann Toon Architects. Day 2: 18 June 2019
Presentations by WSP experts continue on the second day of the conference, with Kris Noiseux, WSP Opus market leader – health, from New Zealand, taking part in the session (Session 17) on Designing for resilience. Kris will talk about designing hospitals in challenging locations in his presentation: “Grey Base Hospital case study: Resilient, multiuse design in one of the most challenging locations on earth.” You can watch Kris’ video on designing hospitals to function through an earthquake here.
Finally, as part of Session 18 on Place-based health in low income countries, mechanical engineer and healthcare expert from WSP Africa, Jabulile Nhlapo, will share her experience in a presentation entitled “Developing an eco-system of place-based healthcare infrastructure in developing markets.” Watch her video on making medicine mobile here.
