C40 Cities Protecting the Mass Transit
The mayors of 97 cities across the world are demanding historic levels of investment in public transport to ensure a green and just recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. Underpinning this campaign is a report developed by WSP’s team in Canada, which demonstrates the relationship between funding mass transit and carbon emissions, jobs, health, and social justice. It shows, for example, that better public transport could substantially reduce air pollution and create millions of jobs. As the pandemic draws to a close, we hope our research will help cities across the world to move towards a more sustainable and equitable future.
