Canada Line, Vancouver’s new rapid transit system was a $2 billion project. Connecting downtown Vancouver with the international airport and the city of Richmond, the line is distinct from general traffic, with track that is either below grade or elevated.
We provided the civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering for a selection of key line stations at Bridgeport, Marine Drive, City Centre, and Yaletown, and full conceptual engineering for all 17 stations on the line, including five deep tunnel stations, five shallow tunnel stations, and seven above grade elevated stations. In providing these services we contributed to a project that was completed on budget and three months ahead of schedule.
The schedule and delivery method of the Canada Line was to suit the Winter Olympics, a major international sporting event. This imposed additional scheduling and design demands as the stations needed to be fully commissioned without delay, and immediately provide world class service for the attendees of this major event.
