Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital

The Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital is referred to as the “Hospital of the Future”. The large-scale private healthcare development comprises of two main complexes - the hospital and the medical office building were designed to deliver quality healthcare and provide an enhanced experience for patients and visitors within the heart of Singapore. The hospital complex is a 14-story tower with 353 single bedded rooms and a diagnostic and treatment center. The 234,000-square foot (21,732-square-meter) medical office building complex consists of medical suites and private specialty clinics.

As the appointed Mechanical & Electrical Consultant, WSP provided Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing engineering services with full redundancy to ensure zero possibility of failure to safeguard the continuity of the hospital operations including:

Key features:

• Ducted individual fan coil in each room was built-in for improved indoor air quality and with adequate pre-treated outdoor air to the room for increased dilution. High efficiency air filters were used to provide protection against viruses and airborne contaminants that can compromise the health of staff and patients.
• Heat pipes were installed to recover energy from all cold exhaust air from operating theatres to regulate at an optimal temperature.
• Air exhaust from isolation wards were treated with high efficiency HEPA filters to prevent infection risks and protect public health.  
• Redundancy power supply to equipment serving critical facilities such as operating theatres, ICUs and laboratories were designed and planned to comply to stringent fire and safety industry regulations, and ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Medical gas distribution was fitted with pressure sensors, switches, and isolation valves to achieve highest-accuracy monitoring and control.
• Waste discharge from isolation wards and laboratories were treated before discharging to the sewer system for safe and environmental waste management. 
• Solar panels were installed to produce hot water to meet the hospital’s hot water requirement resulting in energy savings.

The project has achieved BCA Green Mark Platinum Award since 2012.
