Package 1 Contract 1 commenced in April 2015 and involves the provision of 16 lifts for 6 existing footbridges and elevated walkways and 2 existing subways in congested urban areas in Eastern, Southern, Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Yau Tsim Mong, Kowloon City and Wong Tai Sin Districts of Hong Kong. “At the peak over 60 construction staff worked on various sites supervised by our resident site engineers and inspectors,” says Calvin Li (Project Manager). “This is a great achievement and full credit to our site supervision team led by Wallace Yip (Senior Resident Engineer) and Daniel Ip (Resident Engineer).”
The Universal Access Facilities programme was initiated by the Hong Kong Government in August 2012 to retrofit barrier-free access facilities at public walkways i.e. public footbridges, elevated walkways and subways maintained by the Highways Department by providing lifts and ramp access.
Appointed by the Highways Department and CEDD, WSP has provided / is providing lead consultant and construction supervision services on 7 packages with over 180 lifts provided to date.
