Earlier this week, the Singapore government announced plans to build 11 new dormitories for 100,000 workers in the next two years.  

With a revised set of standards for new Quick Build Dormitories, what design considerations and engineering solutions must be taken into account so that these facilities are future-proofed? 

Steven Tay, Senior Principal at WSP Singapore, highlighted the importance of good cross ventilation in places with high density living.  "Where possible, a wind catcher can be introduced into the building. Within the dormitories, window openings should be operable by occupants. Ventilation openings can be oriented such that they are offset from each other and facilitates fresh air mixing, while minimising obstructions to airflow within the room."
