The Tsing Ma Control Area (TMCA) covers more than 15 miles (24 kilometers) of roads comprising bridges, tunnel and highways, and some of Hong Kong’s infrastructure landmarks including the Rambler Channel Bridge, Cheung Ching Tunnel, Tsing Ma Bridge, Kap Shui Mun Bridge, and the Ting Kau Bridge.
The TMCA serves as a highway hub connecting roads leading to three main locations: the airport, the city centre, and the northwest of Hong Kong toward Yuen Long. Serving as the only road link to the airport, the deployment of an advanced and reliable traffic control and surveillance system (TCSS) was determined during the project planning stage.
Subsequently, WSP was commissioned to undertake one of the most ambitious and challenging integrated traffic control projects in Hong Kong.
