Nirupama joined WSP in 2014 and was the only female engineer in the structural supervision team based in the UAE at the time. Since then she has worked on huge retail, commercial and luxury projects in the region. She recalls, “When I first joined WSP, I was not aware that I was the only female in the structural supervision team. I am grateful to my line manager and the directors I’ve worked with for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to be involved in some of the most amazing projects in the region. ”
Coming from a culture where women are encouraged to become doctors, Nirupama is proud to have made the right decision in becoming an engineer. She said, “My grandfather, who is an aeronautical engineer, served as my motivation and inspiration to pursue my interest in engineering. I am proud to be successful in an industry that is male-dominated.”
Nirupama talks about her passion for learning and finding solutions to complex problems. She said, “I love taking on new challenges and working on complicated structures. I have worked on various concrete and pre-cast structures and am looking forward to working on steel and tall structures in my next projects.”
Nirupama ensures that despite her busy career, she has time for herself and her family. During weekends you will find her spending time with her family and friends or running marathons – she recently joined the Standard Chartered Run and the Dubai Women’s Run. She said, “Time management is very important. I want to make sure I balance my professional and personal life.”
