At WSP we are committed to an open and transparent approach to mental health and to addressing the risks and triggers around mental health. We are committed to creating a psychologically safe workplace in which our people feel that they can discuss mental health, practice self-care, and call for support without any fear or concern of consequence.
To help with this we have trained 20 people in our Middle East business in Mental Health First Aid; an internationally recognised certification that equips Mental Health First Aiders with the skills to help individuals in crisis and recognise the signs that a person might need support. By the end of 2019 we will have trained a further 30 people, meaning we will have 50 fully trained Mental Health First Aiders.
Encouraging conversations around mental health requires all of us to create safe spaces in which we can talk about our wellbeing and trust can be established. By promoting self-care and balance in our day to day lives, by dedicating time and space to wellbeing and by openly sharing information on mental health we are taking steps in the right direction and hopefully affecting positive change within our industry.
