Colin Chung Talked about MVAC Design on Cruise Ships and Aircrafts for Infection Prevention and Control at the HKIE-BSD’s First Webinar

Colin Chung, Managing Director of Property and Buildings, China at WSP, was invited as one of the expert speakers at the first Webinar co-organised by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Building Services Division (‘HKIE-BSD’) and Construction Innovation and Technology Application Centre (‘CITAC’) of the Construction Industry Council (CIC), to discuss the spread of COVID-19 virus on cruise vessels and aircrafts and the latest MVAC design and application that could prevent infection on board.

As the world continues its fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, the efficiency and effectiveness of HVAC system and Building Services Installation have become particularly critical and an area of focus by engineers. As such, the HKIE-BSD and CITAC set up two online lectures to discuss the latest, best practice and SMART/ Innovation solutions that could avoid the spreading of contagious diseases.

In the 45-minute lecture, Colin presented the design and construction of a typical MVAC system on cruise vessels and aircrafts, using the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship as a case study, he explained the chance for the virus to spread through air ducts was minimal and how COVID-19 was more likely transmitted on board.  Colin wrapped up his session by introducing the latest air condition system filtration and purification that could further enhance the safeguarding of the passengers’ health.
