First launched in March 2019 to mobilise companies in the property and construction value chain, the BEC Low Carbon Charter now covers companies from all sectors. The number of signatories has just surpassed the 100-mark and now stands at 103, demonstrating Hong Kong business’ willingness to implement swift, bold and collaborative climate action, whilst seeking government leadership and policy support to further enable action.
Signing the Charter marks an important step in WSP’s firm-wide aim to achieve net zero emissions across our value chain by 2040, as it demonstrates our pledge to set and achieve reduction targets and publicises our ambition to the business industry in Hong Kong.
Our targets are consistent with the Science Based Targets initiative and align WSP with the most ambitious aim of the Paris Agreement, to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, which also enable us committing to Pathway 2 of the Charter.
BEC, of which WSP is a corporate member, has been focusing on promoting environmental excellence by advocating the uptake of clean technologies and practices as well as corporate environmental and social responsibility. WSP has also joined BEC’s Power Up Coalition to promote to promote, support and achieve zero-emission construction sites in a long run. We will forge this fruitful partnership to accelerate meaningful actions for our clients, stakeholders and society at large.
