We were appointed to provide transport consulting services for the Inter IKEA development in Wuhan, Hubei of China. The study included both internal design and external accessibility analysis.
IKEA Wuhan, is located approximately 12km to the west of Wuhan City Centre and is encompassed by Jiefang Ave, the Third Ring Road and the Chang Feng northern extension. The store has a GFA of 140,000 sq.m. There are a total of 7000 car-parking spaces, serving both IKEA and the shopping center, including an at-grade and multi-storey car park.
The originally planned road system surrounding the proposed Inter IKEA site had significant deficiencies. Hence, a traffic study was commissioned to improve the future accessibility to the site, and a series of traffic solutions were proposed. Numerous discussions were held between Inter IKEA and the Local Design Institute (LDI) regarding the feasibility of the proposed traffic solutions.
Our study included future traffic solutions agreed between Inter IKEA and the local government/LDI, to enable Inter IKEA to set out the minimum mitigation required as part of the conditions for land bidding. We also produced internal design solutions.
