With over 20 years’ experience in signalling and control systems design as well as rail systems asset management, Joseph has provided professional services for landmark rail projects in Asia and has been a pioneer in innovating rail consultancy services in the region.
On 21 May, Joseph was invited by the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University, Montreal to host a presentation and discussion with professionals visiting Hong Kong as part of their EMBA course. The topic focused on sustainability of metro systems and the important role that asset management plays. Joseph highlighted the challenge facing operators running multimillion dollar railway assets which includes economic uncertainties, growing social tensions and expectations as well as technical and financial drivers. Running a railway would now entail having the ability to plan ahead and operate in a sustainable manner. Asset management has also become a contemporary and critical topic for modern railway businesses. The presentation also explored other contributing factors that make metros sustainable including safety and risk, commercial and engineering issues which takes into account regulatory factors, and maintenance intervals amongst others.
