Congratulations to Dr. Dino Chen on his appointment to the Seismic Design Review Committee for Super High-Rise Buildings, Guangdong Province, China

On 6 August 2019, WSP’s Dr. Dino Chen, a Senior Associate in the Company’s structural division, China, was appointed to the Seismic Design Review Committee for Super High-Rise Building by Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangdong Province. The appointment is for a three-year period.

The Seismic Design Review Committee consists of 156 renowned engineering experts specializing in one of five specialties, namely structural engineering, shock and wind engineering, municipal and rail transportation, geotechnical and fire engineering. The Committee provides review and oversight of the design of super high rise structures to ensure they are designed to meet stringent safety codes and can withstand extreme weather conditions including typhoons etc. 

About Dino
Based in Hong Kong, Dr. Dino Chen is a core member of the Company’s structural team, where he has played a key role in the design of complex high-rise building structures including the Shenzhen One Avenue (380m), China Resources Qianhai Centre (300m), Dalian Langham Hotel Tower, Guangzhou Zhongzhou Centre, Wuhan Huawei Headquarters, Shanghai Shang-gang Centre, etc.

He gained his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, 2011 and has published more than 30 papers and academic compilations including topics on "Structural Bomb Plasticity Analysis Program OPENSEES Principles." Dr. Chen is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Hong Kong, where he teaches graduate courses on structural earthquake resistance.
