Er. Cheryl Lee, Acting Director of Transport & Infrastructure, WSP in Asia, was a keynote speaker at the webinar organised by the Quebec Government on November 3 2020.
Speaking on the Future of Rail in Asia, Er. Cheryl Lee highlighted various current and upcoming major infrastructure projects across Southeast Asia. In Singapore, there will be new rail lines, extensions of existing train lines and the upgrading of some existing infrastructure as part of the Land Transport Master Plan 2040 to improve and allow barrier-free accessibility. In her presentation, Er. Cheryl Lee also discussed how the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic will impact the future of rail and transit industry, and how future investments in the rail sector will transform.
On future rail and transit trends, Er. Cheryl Lee said, “The life cycle of rail projects will outlive us. Therefore, long-term sustainability and the adaptability of the infrastructure are critical aspects to the future of rail. What we do now, will impact the future.”
She added, “This pandemic is an important lesson of adaptability and resilience for our sector. We must be Future Ready in our design and construction approach for rail and transit infrastructure projects to mitigate risks in future pandemic or disaster. This will enable our vision of sustainability and adaptability.”
Attended by key members of the Quebec rail and metro solution providers, technology, as well as the finance and investment sectors, this webinar was organised to promote the potential investment opportunities and business outlook across Southeast Asia.
