Challenge
The infrastructure of Babil province has suffered from neglect and disrepair following years of political unrest and military conflict. The province is at risk of disease outbreaks due to the existing unsanitary conditions.
Solution
WSP (Formerly Louis Berger) was selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the provincial reconstruction team to help develop a Water and Sewerage Master Plan for Babil province. The master plan will serve as a guide for upgrading the water supply and sanitary sewer systems through the year 2035.
WSP (Formerly Louis Berger’s) duties include:
- Evaluating existing infrastructure to determine potential improvements.
- Developing alternatives and project schedules.
- Preparing cost estimates and identifying funding opportunities.
The water and wastewater upgrades are expected to promote growth and better living conditions for the province’s 1.75 million people.
