WSP’s team helps to restore and protect nature and the environment, to think in new ways within construction and infrastructure, to reduce climate impact, increase resource efficiency and improve people’s quality of life. Sustainability is not just about examining the choice of materials and working methods from an environmental viewpoint, but also about economic and social aspects. We need to think in the long term and WSP now has the tools to develop life cycle calculations within both the construction and infrastructure sectors.

As consultants, we have considerable opportunities to contribute to long-term development and influence opinion, in particular through our investigations and analyses during the early stages of a project. WSP’s most important contribution to sustainable society comes in the projects we are involved in, through our advice to clients and our structured approach to sustainability. A good example is our unique concept of Green Building Design, which takes a holistic approach and focuses on sustainability through all stages of the construction process.

 WSP submits an annual sustainability report, which is prepared according to GRI’s guidelines. The most recent report covers the Group’s activities from 1 January to 31 December 2016. 

WSP has placed further emphasis on sustainability work for many years through its inverted mentoring programme in which young talents with a passion for this issue are partnered with more senior colleagues. The younger members of staff take on the role of mentor to their more experienced colleagues in order to improve their understanding of what sustainability involves. What role it can play in their everyday work and how existing services can be developed for the better through increased awareness. In return, the younger staff learn more about sales and marketing work. They work together for a year and during this time they will implement a project with measurable, time-bound objectives.

 Many of WSP Sweden’s business areas have a strategic focus on developing their project managers’ sustainability skills. This gives the project managers the opportunity to consciously integrate sustainability solutions into our business and projects. The training examines the responsibility of project management and the link between sustainability and management skills in projects, as well as conflicting objectives between the different aspects of sustainability.
