This Snack & Learn Webinar is for anyone interested in pollutants hidden under the sea.
Forests, which cover 70 % of Sweden, have long been important for the Swedish economy, and the country is one of the world’s largest exporters of pulp, paper and sawn timber. But the pulp and paper mills have not only provided work and economic growth, it also released cellulose-rich effluents in surrounding waters causing fibre banks, often polluted by mercury and organic contaminants such as PCBs and dioxins, on the sea beds near the mills.
During the webinar Hanna Almqvist from WSP in Sweden describes a risk classification system to classify the numerous fibre banks along the Swedish Coast, to enable authorities to prioritize between sites.
