WSP has a strong track record in developing sustainable transport strategies for the Chinese Government and World Bank funded demonstration projects. We were delighted to be selected for such an important study amidst strong international competition. This study will provide the blueprint for the next 35 years of major transport infrastructure investment in China.
The current influence area of the study is across 23 City Clusters or Mega Regions with a total of 770 million people, of which 450 million are currently urban residents.
- The study takes into account the need to develop a One City Concept for large mega regions such as the Yangtze River Delta with over 100 million people in one City Cluster.
- The eco planning relies on the development of a multi-tiered railway system including new commuting and regional rail corridors with land use densification around rail hubs.
- Important considerations include regional hub planning for freight and passenger movements, financing through land value capture and important Institutional reforms to deliver the regional planning and large scale investments.
- The study culminated in the publication of A Study and Practice on China City Cluster Integrated Ecological Transport Planning Guideline which is based on the WSP expert study team reports.
Final Report Completed in May 2016 (passed MOT and World Bank Expert Review) and general publication of main findings by PRC MOT in August 2016.
This project received 2016 Shanghai Excellent Engineering Consulting Achievements Award.
