At the time of construction, Phase 3A of the World Trade Centre development was the largest construction project inside Beijing’s Central Business District (CBD). The development opened in August 2010 with a gross floor area of 5.5 million square feet (515,000 square meters) in a 1,082-foot- (330-meter-) tall tower which is the capital’s tallest building. The development provides facilities for the 278-room Shangri-la Hotel in addition to class-A intelligent office space. Other facilities include a Grand Ballroom with seating for 2,000 guests; a three-story retail building with a multi screen cinema complex, restaurants and food courts; and a four-story basement for car parking and support facilities.
WSP served as the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and drainage (MEP) consultant with responsibility for all MEP systems design. The elevator system has 63 Schindler Elevators, 50 of which are capable of traveling at speeds of 33 feet (10 meters) per second, making them the fastest elevators in China. WSP was also responsible for related government and authorities’ submissions, tendering analysis, computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation and fire engineering studies.
Standing at a proud 298m, China World Trade Centre, Phase 3B is at the heart of Beijing Central Business District. Completed in April 2017, the mixed use building comprises premium office space, a 5-star hotel and an upscale mall. With a total GFA at approximately 230,000 sq.m, the project has attained LEED Gold status, testifying to its commitment to go green. WSP provided a wide spectrum of mechanical, electrical, plumbing and drainage services including tender drawings preparation, SD, DD, T&C, tender stage and construction stage.
