The EBHS Project can accommodate more than 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA); however, the New Terminal Building is currently built to 12 MPPA capacity.
WSP has been the EPC Independent Engineer for QAIA Project since February 2008, providing EPC Independent Engineering services for the construction of a 160,000 square meter New Terminal Building, rehabilitation of existing taxiways & aprons, and improvements to airside and landside infrastructure to potentially service 12 million passengers annually. Works also included demolition of the old terminal buildings to accommodate for further expansion.
In 2013, the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) Project earned a Gold Distinction Award for the top public-private partnership (PPP) in Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. QAIA Project was named as one of the world’s top 40 public-private partnerships. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Infrastructure Journal sponsored a global competition to identify public-private partnerships that demonstrate best practices for collaboration between governments and the private sector. A panel of independent judges selected the Queen Alia International Airport project for demonstrating high levels of innovation, creativity, development vision, originality, construction and social impact.
Also in 2013, the Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) Project received an ACI ASQ Award naming QAIA the best improvement project in the Middle East and ranking it amongst the Top 5 Performers in the region.
