Austin, TX—Michael Penic has been named a senior supervising traffic engineer with WSP USA, formerly WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.
In his new position, Mr. Penic will be responsible for technical leadership and staff mentoring in interdisciplinary services associated with transportation engineering, and client advisory services regarding issues related to transportation planning, traffic engineering, roadway design and environmental studies support. Based in the firm’s Austin, Texas office, he currently serves the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and the Texas Department of Transportation.
Mr. Penic has more than 30 years of experience in transportation planning and traffic engineering with several international engineering companies, including the former Parsons Brinckerhoff, where he worked from 2000 to 2003. He has served clients in two dozen states in the areas of transportation planning, corridor studies, traffic analysis for highway design and transit, operational studies, environmental study support, technical and policy research, and process/procedure improvement via software tool development. His background includes traffic and toll revenue forecasting, managed lane planning, design and operations, user benefits analysis, development of geometric and operational concepts for congestion mitigation / bottleneck removal, and quick-response analytical decision support. He is experienced in system planning and visualizing holistic solutions to regional transportation issues from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Mr. Penic has a master’s degree in transportation engineering and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Arizona State University. Additionally, he is an established percussionist/drummer in bands that have played in Texas and other states, including a performance during the Austin City Limits musical festival in 2015.
