EPHRATA, PA—Wagdy Wassef has been named supervising engineering manager for complex bridge structures at WSP USA, formerly WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy.
As a member of the firm’s complex bridge technical excellence center, Mr. Wassef will provide specialist technical support for staff working on complex structures across the U.S. and will be based in the Ephrata office. He has more than three decades of experience in analysis and design for new and rehabilitated structures, and has performed numerous fatigue studies and developed fatigue retrofits for several major bridges. He is an expert on AASHTO specifications calibration and development, and has participated in the development of AASHTO LRFD specifications as well as continuous updates.
Mr. Wassef earned a doctorate in civil engineering from Iowa State University and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cairo University. He is a registered professional engineer in Iowa, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., and has authored or co-authored numerous technical papers and reports. He is a member of several industry organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, and has served on the Transportation Research Board’s steel bridge committee and the Post-Tensioning Institute’s bridge committee. He also chaired the Transportation Research Board’s Subcommittee on Analyzing Steel Bridges.
