WSP was general engineering consultant to the Washington State Department of Transportation on the Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program—serving as trusted advisor from planning and environmental studies through design and construction.
The opening of the tunnel will allow for the demolition of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, which is seismically vulnerable and presents a barrier between the waterfront and residents of and visitors to Seattle. The project will also create nine acres of new, people-friendly public space, increasing business and entertainment opportunities, and reclaiming the waterfront for the public.
The Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program, which opened to traffic on Feb. 4, is just one of many projects where WSP is helping its clients create landmark projects that shape communities for the future.
