DALLAS — WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services firm, collaborated with Corgan to develop a conceptual design for an Uber Air Skyport in Dallas.
Gregory Kelly, the CEO of WSP USA, said Uber expects the Skyport Mobility hub will provide electric vehicle takeoff and landing (eVTOL) by 2023. In addition to providing a place to board or disembark eVTOLs, it will also serve as a complete community hub with electric bike and scooter parking, electrical vehicle fleet charging and parking, and additional amenities, including restaurants and co-working spaces.
“Aerial rideshare will enhance accessibility between communities and dissolve traditional boundaries of travel,” said Kelly. “WSP is proud to work with Corgan to provide sustainable and flexible solutions for managing the project’s immense energy demand, while protecting the electrical needs of local communities through grid resiliency.”
Kelly said WSP USA provided the sustainable energy strategy to power the concept, along with structural and electrical engineering support. WSP developed a strategy for supplying and managing the power to charge the various vehicle types, while providing sustainability strategies to guide the conceptual design for a readily deployable, modular design that can be easily repeated.
Additional members of the team include Kimley Horn for civil and transportation planning, and Austin Commercial for construction management.
