The Greenovate Awards is a collaborative programme owned and driven by Growthpoint Properties and the GBCSA. The intention behind The Greenovate Awards is to bridge the gap between theory that is being learnt at universities and real world challenges faced in the industry, by exposing students to key focus areas surrounding sustainability and offering practical knowledge sharing and mentorship leading up to the final judging and awards presentation.
Open to Honours students from Universities across the country - in property studies, construction or quantity surveying, as well as final year engineering students studying in the Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical or Civil streams - the awards programme includes two streams that do not compete and rather run in parallel, with first, second and third prizes for both streams announced at the gala dinner.
“The Greenovate Awards is a fantastic initiative. The awards programme not only encourages the next generation of engineers and property and sustainability professionals to expand their thinking on all aspects related to building for resilience and long-term sustainability – but provides participating teams with the opportunity to demonstrate their thinking in practices through their projects,” says Alison Groves, Regional Director, WSP, Building Services, Africa.
“Having participated as a judge for this year’s awards I had the privilege to engage directly with all of the finalists – and I am both humbled and excited by the passion and creativity that was exhibited by all of the teams. And I am filled with hope for the future when I think about the devotion shown by these teams to become stewards for the green building and sustainability movements – and towards creating more sustainable neighbourhoods, nodes and cities where societies can thrive well into the future,” adds Groves.
