People have been walking for thousands of years, leaving insignificant physical traces everywhere. However, pedestrians often seem to be left behind by cars and buses, leaving significant carbon footprints. Recently bicycles and Super Bike Lanes received a lot of attention and a lot of space in urban planning. In this crossroad, pedestrians are losing ground although the benefits of walking are scientifically proven.
How can we focus on pedestrians in urban planning? The Super Sidewalk is an easy answer to a complex question. It is a concept based on eight guidelines for urban planners that motivates people to walk more. It is easy to integrate into urban planning, and it can improve life and the coherence of the city.
This webinar explores the Super Sidewalk concept, which supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals at different levels. The concept was developed back in 2014-2016 by the presenter, Pernille Bruun, Senior Project Manager, Landscape Architect & Accessibility Auditor, who joined WSP Danmark in 2019.
