At WSP, we are committed to shaping a more sustainable future by supporting governments and communities in advancing their energy transition goals. In collaboration with the Department of Energy (DoE) in Abu Dhabi, we played a key role in developing the Sustainable Energy Policies with Climate Change Focus for the Energy Sector; a comprehensive framework designed to guide the emirate’s transition toward a low-carbon, resilient energy future.
This initiative aligns with the UAE’s ambitious net-zero targets, ensuring that energy policies remain adaptive to evolving technologies and market shifts. Our strategic approach provided the DoE with a clear roadmap for informed decision-making, fostering collaboration across the energy sector to drive meaningful progress.
The project was structured into four key phases, each critical to the development of a robust and actionable Energy Policy Framework:
- Discovery Phase: We conducted an in-depth assessment of Abu Dhabi’s energy policies, regulations, and initiatives, benchmarking them against ten leading countries to identify best practices.
- Gap Assessment Phase: Through extensive stakeholder engagement, we identified policy gaps and explored key enablers that could accelerate the transition to a more sustainable energy future by 2035.
- Governance Development Phase: We established a structured governance mechanism, defining actionable initiatives, key performance indicators (KPIs), stakeholder roles, and review mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement.
- Policy Development Phase: Our team synthesized findings into a cohesive energy policy framework, complete with actionable initiative cards, policy portfolios, high-level impact assessments, and well-defined policy statements.
By leveraging our expertise in energy strategy and policy development, WSP has helped the DoE lay the foundation for a more sustainable and resilient energy sector. This project not only supports Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision but also contributes to the UAE’s broader sustainability and net-zero ambitions, benefiting businesses, communities, and future generations.
