Following the trial run started on 1 December, the North Concourse of Taoyuan International Airport’s Terminal 3 was officially opened on 25 December. Frank Lin, our Managing Director of Asian Regions and Taiwan office, attended the ceremony with our project team members.
As the general consultant of the project joint venture, and the project and construction management (PCM/CM) consultant for the MEP system design, our Visioneers are proud to have helped turn the project and its vision into reality.
Taoyuan International Airport is Taiwan’s primary gateway, serving Taipei and the northern region. The construction of Terminal 3 responds to the rapid growth in passenger demand – once completed, the terminal would accommodate 45 million travellers, raising the overall capacity of the airport to about 82 million passengers, making this terminal the flagship of the Taoyuan Aerotropolis.
The PCM and CM services we provided for MEP systems included reviewing designs, overseeing quality and safety during construction, and making sure schedules and budgets were maintained. With our technical expertise and experience, we ensured that all MEP systems – including HVAC, lighting, fire safety, communications, and energy management – met international standards and operated reliably.
To strengthen this critical infrastructure, a range of smart systems have been introduced in recent years to improve passenger convenience and operational efficiency. All of these rely on robust MEP and communications systems. WSP has played a significant role in the Terminal 3 project and continues to help the airport plan and design new wireless communication infrastructure. Over the years, our contributions have had a positive impact on this key infrastructure in Taiwan.
The opening of the North Concourse is only the first step in the broader Terminal 3 plan. The main terminal building and the South Concourse are scheduled to be completed by 2027, at which point Taoyuan International Airport will present a new face to the world and strengthen its position as a key hub in East Asia. We look forward to this transformation, not only as a transportation facility but as a landmark that integrates sustainable design, commercial space, and passenger experience.
