The 28-hectare state-of-the-art sports park has transformed the Kai Tak neighbourhood, once the site of Hong Kong’s airport, as the home ground of the city’s international sports, cultural and entertainment events.
The 50,000-seat main Kai Tak stadium features a retractable roof and bowl cooling to allow the hosting of major international sports and cultural events to be held under all weather conditions, and to contain possible noise nuisance from events such as large-scale concerts.
The complex also features a 10,000-seat sports centre to accommodate sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and wushu, and a 5,000-seat public sports ground that serves as a venue for public jogging, athletics training and matches, football matches as well as a warm-up venue for major sports events at the main stadium.
Since its opening in March 2025, the Kai Tak Sports Park has hosted numerous landmark events, including the Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament, Coldplay concerts, AFC Asian Cup qualifiers and the National Games of China.
WSP is proud to be involved since the early stage of the project, serving as the technical services consultant of the Hong Kong Government. We provided structural, building services, environmental and sustainability, and traffic planning consultant for the preliminary design. Throughout the project, we oversaw the design from the awarded team and prepare evaluation reports and recommendations to the authority to ensure the design meeting the requirements.
