WSP Singapore Wins SGBC-BCA Business Leadership in Sustainability Award 2022

The biennale SGBC-BCA Leadership in Sustainability Awards 2022 is co-organised by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to recognise professionals, organisations and building projects for their contributions and significant achievements in the development of a green and sustainable built environment.

The Business Leadership in Sustainability category honours organisations that have meaningfully embraced sustainability into business operations, products, services and solutions and are beacons of demonstrating impact, innovation or transformation within the built environment sector.

We are privileged to receive the Business Leadership in Sustainability - Impact Award from Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Ms Grace Fu at the SGBC Gala Dinner on 20 May 2022. SGBC President Ar. Tang Kok Thye also presented us with a Singapore Green Building Services Certificate in acknowledgement of our aspiration in driving sustainability and green building.

Our ongoing efforts in incorporating sustainability into our operations as well as our services and advice to clients make this achievement possible, notably in the following award-winning projects:

Partnered with Lendlease Corporation to plan and implement resource efficiency solutions for a two-storey dynamic co-working environment with traditional office spaces spanning 72,000 square foot space, we took a people-centric approach to the design that was essential to provide a conducive environment. Office suites were fitted with acoustic panels and soundproof ductworks to absorb and diffuse unwanted noise disruptions. The introduction of biophilic design enhanced the space through natural wood elements and air purifying indoor plants.

Addition and alteration works were carried out to convert existing facilities into the latest hub for School of Medicine and Faculty of Science. With the provision of 150 kWp photovoltaic systems, the building utilises the new roof to integrate the solar panels to obtain super low energy. The introduction of energy-efficient systems such as smart lighting systems enabled the overall projected energy savings for the hub at 40.5%.  

Integrating smart features to digitalise its operations at the five-storey, 21,000 sq m recreation club, we incorporated various energy-efficient features including 1,370 sq m of solar PV panels, LED lightings, water-efficient sanitary fittings and rainwater-harvesting systems. HTNS Khatib is the first clubhouse in Singapore to incorporate an ECO-filtration system (bio-film filtration) inspired by natural sterilisation techniques to replace traditional mediums of sand to remove contaminates and chlorine for sanitisation. 

Other than these outstanding project, an urban conservation mixed development in Singapore - South Beach Tower clinched the  Building Project Leadership in Sustainability Award under  Urban Renewal Category for demonstrating a strong focus on sustainability and adaptive reuse of an existing building and space, while recognising its heritage to best reflect its new purpose.

WSP (former Parsons & Brinkerhoff) is the M&E consultant to deliver an environmental design and green solutions by incorporating a key feature of large ‘environmental filter’ canopy that covers the open spaces, linking heritage buildings with the two high-rise towers and providing shelter from the elements and drawing air currents to cool the area beneath it.
