A Commitment to Women’s Healthcare

Christiana Care Health System launched a $260 million enhancement project at Christiana Hospital to transform healthcare for women, children and infants throughout the state.

The new 400,000 square foot, eight-story Women and Children’s building — developed in collaboration with patients and their families — will better integrate services for mothers and babies and continue to provide the most innovative, high-quality comprehensive specialty care for families in the state of Delaware and the surrounding region. The project includes a new four-story patient and visitor parking garage to serve the hospital campus.

A State-Of-The-Art Facility Designed For The Whole Family

Our team provided mechanical and electrical engineering design for both new construction and renovation of the existing facilities. The building features a new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to replace the existing one. It features private rooms that support couplet care – where new mothers and their newborns can stay together, and sleep-in space for families. Housed in the facility are new state-of the-art labor and delivery suites and spacious private maternity rooms. To provide convenience there will be an expanded triage area and separate admitting and discharge areas. The facility houses a new labor lounge, a family rooftop garden and a continuing care nursery for babies with special needs including newborn jaundice, feeding challenges and those born exposed to opioid drugs during the pregnancy.

Private NICU Rooms

The new NICU includes 78 private rooms with an emphasis on the environment as a means of contributing to the overall health and well-being of the newborn. The ability of the parents to be in close proximity to their newborn, tight environmental controls within the individual rooms and state of the art equipment all contribute to a quicker recovery of the newborn.
