Nature is the backbone of our lives, and it plays a critical role in sustaining our society’s global health, business continuity, and economic development. With biodiversity declining at a faster rate than ever before , the time to fast-track action is now.
In honour of COP16, the UN Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, taking place in Cali (Colombia) this week, there is no better time to spotlight some of our recent contributions in this space.
At WSP, we are passionate about reversing biodiversity loss and helping businesses lead the change in transitioning the economy to a sustainable future. The benefits extend far beyond risk management; they lead to new opportunities and foster business resilience. Thanks to the deep expertise of our thousands of specialists worldwide, including biologists, ecologists, marine/aquatic specialists, and biodiversity experts, we are uniquely positioned to drive nature-positive outcomes in our client work.
- We recently updated our Bridging Business and Nature: A Strategic Approach for a Thriving Planet Guidebook, initially published in 2023. This valuable resource helps private sector businesses kickstart their nature-positive journey by underscoring the benefits of embracing nature-related commitments and providing guidance on current and upcoming frameworks.
- In June, we delivered a first-of-its-kind Power Plant Guidebook, commissioned by Eurelectric, the sector association that represents the common interests of the European electricity industry. With the energy transition in full swing, our experts provide clear recommendations and concrete steps for scaling up nature-inclusive designs and good operational practices across renewable energy and grid projects.
- As a leader in ESG , we are also helping businesses navigate the complexities of nature-related reporting with the launch of TNFD Essentials: A Beginner’s Guide to Nature-Related Financial Disclosure. This global guidebook, published in September, was produced in partnership with the UN Global Compact Network Canada.
In practice, tackling the biodiversity crisis on a global scale requires collective action and alignment among private and public sector players. To that end, in June, WSP proudly endorsed Business for Nature’s call for policymakers to amplify their efforts to adopt, implement, and enforce policies that support the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework adopted at COP 15 in 2022.
