Hong Kong Non-Residential Project – Grand Award
WSP provided structural, geotechnical and civil engineering consultancy services for this one of the largest and most technologically advanced logistic centres in Hong Kong with a total GFA of more than 380,000 sqm spreading over 12 floors at the Hong Kong International Airport.
As the building has a length exceeding 300m, our design featured stiff beam-column frame to control building movement under wind and enhance structural efficiency, and expansion joint was leveraged to reduce thermal stress. Large diameter bored piles with high capacity was utilised to speed up construction, and C80 high strength concrete was used to maximise warehouse storage space due to the heavy gravity load.
To ensure super-flatness and levelness in the warehouse area, we adopted a 75mm late cast wearing slab on top of structural slab redesigned with reduced thickness to minimise load impact on foundation and improve reliability. A repeated floor system was implemented to increase structural standardisation and provide a uniform layout and reduced difficulty in logistic equipment installation.
