The student residence development comprises four eight-storey hostel blocks on a steep hillside at the southeastern edge of the HKUST campus. WSP’s structural and geotechnical engineers adopted a slope responsive design to minimise excavation and protect existing terrain while maintaining campus connectivity. A terraced site formation strategy and raft foundations, which reduced site impact and facilitated construction, has demonstrated WSP’s sustainable and integrated approach to hillside developments.
Cyberport 5
Commendation Merit Award
Cyberport 5 is the latest extension of Hong Kong’s flagship innovation and technology hub equipped with sensitive data-technology facilities. WSP addressed complex site conditions on the western shores of Hong Kong Island with integrated structural solutions featuring buttress walls, transfer beams for 2.4m diameter columns and long-span steel trusses. The two-storey basement is supported by a clutched pipe pile excavation and lateral support (ELS) system near the seawall and drainage reserve to minimise ground settlement and reduce impact on surrounding infrastructure. Thanks to WSP’s expertise, this project is the first MiC office unit in Hong Kong’s private sector approved by authorities.
Drainage Services Department Building at Cheung Sha Wan Sewage Pumping Station
Commendation Merit Award
The 21‑storey office tower was constructed within the operating Cheung Sha Wan Sewage Pumping Station. We provided structural, geotechnical and building services engineering consultancy services, adopting a setback column and cantilevered structural system to avoid additional load on existing facilities. Large-diameter bored piles and optimised structural design enabled open and flexible workplace integrated with greenery and Blue-Green Infrastructure, supporting a modern government facility.
ONMANTIN
Commendation Merit Award
ONMANTIN is a residential transit-oriented development (TOD) above Ho Man Tin MTR Station, comprising five 23-storey towers built over operational railway tunnels and pedestrian subways. The development sits on a hillside site directly above the operational Tuen Ma Line railway tunnels and the existing MTR pedestrian subway, presenting exceptional geotechnical and structural interface challenges. WSP’s Visioneers designed a load-bypassing and bridge-over structural strategy to fully protect existing infrastructure. A hybrid foundation system and tailored ELS strategy enhanced buildability while maintaining uninterrupted railway operations, demonstrating an effective solution for development above critical transport infrastructure.
Park & Fly Automated Car Park
Commendation Merit Award
Park & Fly is Hong Kong’s largest fully automated car park at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, providing 1,800 parking spaces supported by an advanced automatic parking system. Sitting on a young non-dredged reclamation site with piling prohibited, the project adopted a piling-free compensation raft foundation to control settlement under strict operational tolerances. WSP also tailored the structural design to meet the precision requirements of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and car rack systems, while modular precast construction reduced construction tolerances and supported reliable long-term operation.
