1. What did you enjoy the most about working at WSP during your internship?
I had the privilege of working on real-world projects, collaborating with professionals in the field and receiving guidance and mentorship from experienced engineers. Along with learning and developing new skills and knowledge in a supportive environment. Additionally, one of the most enjoyable experiences of my internship was the welfare activities and café events WSP held. It was a fantastic opportunity to take a break from work and socialise with colleagues, as well as connect with other professionals in the company and build relationships that will undoubtedly be valuable in my future career.
2. What was the most valuable aspect of your internship experience, and why?
The most valuable aspect of my internship experience was the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in engineering design. This exposure has let me learn how theoretical principles are applied in real-world scenarios to develop a deeper understanding of the field.
3. How did you interpret the culture of inclusion and diversity at WSP?
One of the most outstanding aspects of my experience at WSP was the culture of inclusion and diversity that was present throughout the company. I felt welcomed and appreciated from the moment I joined the team, regardless of my background or previous experience. The team members were always respectful and supportive of one another, and I was encouraged to share my ideas and perspectives freely. Overall, my experience at WSP has reaffirmed my belief in the importance of creating a workplace culture that values inclusion and diversity.
4. What skills did you learn or improve upon during your internship?
During my internship at WSP, I acquired knowledge and strengthened my engineering design skills. Working with software like Prokon and ETABS provided me with experience which enabled me to advance my structural design skills. Through constant exposure to these tools, I gained confidence in my design skills and developed a deeper understanding of the principles and best practices involved in engineering design. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to collaborate with other Structural Team members, which has enhanced my teamwork and communication abilities.
5. How did your mentor/supervisor provide guidance and support throughout your internship?
Working with the Structural Team at the Building Structures Department was an enriching and rewarding experience. My supervisors were very helpful throughout my internship, providing me clear instructions and patiently showing me how to carry out my responsibilities effectively. Their expertise and experience in the field were invaluable, and I learned a great deal from their guidance and feedback. They were always available to answer any questions I had and provided support and encouragement throughout my internship. Beyond technical guidance, my supervisors also provided valuable insights and advice on career development and professional growth. By sharing their experiences and knowledge of the industry, they greatly helped me develop a broader perspective and a stronger sense of my career goals.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such supportive mentors during my internship at WSP. Their guidance and support undoubtedly played a significant role in helping me to develop my skills, gain confidence, and make the most of my internship experience.
