1. What did you enjoy the most about working at WSP during your internship?
The most enjoyable experience during my internship period in WSP was visiting the Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Plant site. I gained more knowledge and practical experience by visiting this site. Moreover, I have the opportunities to utilise and apply the concepts learned in class in real-world situations.
2. What was the most valuable aspect of your internship experience, and why?
The most valuable aspect of my internship was meeting with different people from various departments. They provided me with lots of valuable information and insights into the industry. Hence, I attained a deeper understanding of the industry. This advice was incredibly useful for my plans and career path decisions. Therefore, meeting new people provided me with a great opportunity to expand and build connections.
3. How did you interpret the culture of inclusion and diversity at WSP?
At WSP, the culture is inclusive, diverse and supportive. The female-male ratio is well-balanced, creating a positive and empowering environment for everyone. Seeing a lot of female engineers and consultants diminished my stereotypes about engineers being predominantly male. I am inspired by the strong presence and influence of women in leadership positions at WSP, and how they display and promote gender equality in this industry. Additionally, there is diverse representation in terms of ethnic backgrounds, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives. I would say the culture of inclusion and diversity at WSP is best reflected by such internationally-diverse environment and the gender equality.
4. What skills did you learn or improve upon during your internship?
During my internship, I was able to improve my research skills and gain hands-on experience in data analysis. I was responsible for conducting literature reviews for different projects and finding academic journals. I learned different research methods to increase my efficiency in finding useful information and sources. Additionally, I learned various data analysis skills such as finding the most appropriate way to present my data and honed my excel skillls. After the data collection phase, I had to work on organising and presenting my data, therefore, my presentation skills have improved significantly. Furthermore, my internship experience allowed me to develop important professional skills for the future.
5. How did your mentor/supervisor provide guidance and support throughout your internship?
My mentors and supervisors were incredibly supportive and helped me integrate into the working environment. They provided me with a lot of guidance throughout my various tasks and assisted me whenever I needed help. They were incredibly attentive and happy to answer any questions I had. They were also incredibly welcoming and inclusive, they encouraged me to participate in different activities, the WSP café and farewell dinners. Overall, they have provided great support to me throughout my internship.
